Brushes!

Hi all, these are some images I did with "Brushes", a very cool app for IPhone and IPod, check out the website here. All images are painted from life as supposedly you will notice.
A little Sci-fi note on the second painting from above: it is actually what mine and not only mine eyes have seen upon the sky of Lecce, Italy, the 14th of April moving away by train. The picture shows just few of them, but it was an arch of more of a dozen red lights suspended in the sky. It's been really uncanny and totally odd. Some of them were moving slowly, yet in formation.
If they were UFO then they were the bad guys, cos the lights were reddish:)
These are all dedicated to my dear and beloved Francesca, without her they wouldn't have been possible.
Peace, a.

doodle: girl
As you'll notice, when I'm doodling around girls and tables are the most frequent subjects. No particular reason for this.. maybe cause I'm sitting at a table most of my day? Ok, I'll dedicate this one to whoever sits at a table for more than 5 hours a day. Anyone?Special thanks to Paolo Li Causi for providing the scan.
Cheers to David Abbott.

more from the booklet

maybe a brief explanation for these ones. As you'll read there's an internet address top of the last page here. It points to a weather report website for the winds and seas around Greece. We had to go back from Patmos to Rhodos but in those days the weather was shit and we've already had the worst trip from Symi to Kalymnos, while we were supposed to reach Patmos that day. We were on a catamaran (a very fast boat), but the waves were so freaking high we had to stop cos we were starting to accuse some headache and labyrinthitis, while everyone around was just sick and throwing up the world! Apparently the sea was supposed to get even worse in the trait between Leros and Patmos, which made us decide for an intermission in the island of Kalymnos, which is quite touristic and crowded, but in the end was worth the stop, there was a really nice valley there. So this is why I noted this address, cos we were fucking scared to go back! And no more fast boats, above you'll notice the spacy hall of a huge ferry, it took us seven hours to get back to Rhodos, it was insane. The stones are from a very cool beach (Lampoy in Patmos), each of them was really unique and nice, so i chose some and drew them in a moebius mood, with medium results, but anyway here they go.

Bryan Talbot’s “The Adventures of Luther Arkwright”

On the Koukou productions’ homepage, based in Melbourne, Australia, since two years or something it’s announced they are going to begin producing the screen adaptation of “The Adventures of Luther Arkwright” and its sequel “The Heart of Empire”, both graphic novels, both masterworks, full of sci-fi, parallel universes(i.e.:multiverses), and astonishing mind powers, telepathy and stuff.
To me, it is by far the best sci-fi comic book ever, besides incredibly mind-opening.
Bryan Talbot started writing and drawing it in 1978. The first part of it was published in one volume in 1981, winning 4 Eagle Awards. The second and third volumes appeared in late 80’s, and it all has been reprinted in one tome by Dark Horse in 1998. In 2000 he finished “The Heart of Empire – The Legacy of Luther Arkwright“, Dark Horse also, which was nominated for 3 Eisner and 5 Eagle awards.
At this very moment, Talbot is finalizing a 320 page long graphic novel inspired to the life and the work of Lewis Carroll called “Alice in Sunderland”, which seems to have all the ingredients to be listed as another phantastik masterpiece of the drawn literature. Click on the link above to peep about some excerpts.
Back to Luther’s movie, I simply couldn’t wait to know whether or not the movie was going to be done, so I wrote an email to Bryan himself to ask him some news, and he answered that the new version of the script sticks really closely to the novel and apparently the thing is about to become true...further updates upon Talbot’s art are to come in “the Blobulent Soup”, check back for updates.
Hey-ho.

Back from Venice #2

Here are the only two sketches i made while i was there with comparison photos, both are views of my friend Nicolò's home, that kindly hosted me, this post is dedicated to his kindness. Weather wasn't great, but we went loungin' around surronded by the great masquerade of the Venetian Carnival. Ghe sboccio*.
*<pron. gay zbotchow> in english means either "what a blossom", "what a bloom", or "i'm blossoming/blooming in it", overall it's almost senseless, but a typical venetian intercalary form.

The North View
This one completes the set of the three views of the Mighty Palladian Lounge. As you'll notice, the North Entrance, even if reachable by foot, is preceded by a huge stairway, actually in misuse, since no one that's going to lounge is generally in the pink, to climb that high, even if occasionaly happens. By comparing the three views you'll appreciate that the building itself is actually never the same, in fact it changes shape continuously, but no one ever noticed it because the overall proportions are constant, even if the "Living Palace" myth has been orally traded by the tribes in the countryside since dozens of generations. It's about 11.00 pm.Say adieu to the Lounge, if you feel like and/or have a great day!

Sunrise at the Lounge
There i am, and here's to you, guys. Right after my morning coffee going to have a great day loungin' at the Lounge, in my Gustav-Klimt-heyday-suit. The sun is rising on the right of the building, which sets the previous post around 2.00 pm, and in this one it's about 7.00am, summertime. This entrance fronts South, oddly enough, and although there are entrances on the four sides of the building, the western one is apparently covered up with a growing wood of plants and trees. Be good.

Palladian Lounge
How i wish i had a place like this one, just to lounge around. Obviously easily reachable with a little boat from the place where i'd live, that could be a couple of hundred yards far, or something. Sunny, 365 days a year. Warm nights, so that i could dress up like Gustav Klimt in the heydays without petr-o-fiyn' my bones for the Viennese freezing cold.. These are my unachievable and commonplace thoughts for the day, have a merry one.PS: the next post is for Amid that quoted me yesterday in his Cartoon Modern blog! jeepers, no one ever called me an artist until now, thanks Amid!

hi. the shape of the eyes has been mutuated (?dunno..) by an impressive illutrator i found in someone's blog somewhere, don't remember where. The name is Wada Mizna, some girl quoted her in her blog cause she was going to see an exhibition in LA at Robocon. Ciao!

My shelves

Welcome to my place everybody. Just in case someone wanted to see what's on my shleves. Anyway, sadly i couldn't post big images, or i don't know exactly how to do it..I just discover the blogger shrinks long images. Something is readable, something not. Anyway, it makes me feel very comfortable seeing my books here, fells like home, without underestimating what the decorative pattern of the post adds to this blobulent soup itself. Hope you feel comfortable as I do, ciao!

Oekaki no.1
this one's for my friend Claudio "Zorro" Acciari. If you want to take a look on how i did it, go follow this link. Ronnie del Carmen in his journal quotes both Claudio and oekaki's definition in wikipedia, just in case you were interested to know something more about it. Anyway, Claudio introduced me to this powerful web tool which features options like Ctrl(Apple)+z and Alt to pick colours beneath, just like in Photoshop.Taking a closer look to the making of it, i have to credit about 270 frames of the record to Piero Corva (it's drawing is a kind of lion with an araldic referral, don't know which).
Anyway, here it is, for you guys.
Comments are welcome.
Ciao!

Fallen Goddess

As a young guy i was impressed by an Iron Man, drawn by Jean "Moebius" Giraud, in the period where he started something in L.A. called "Starwatcher Ltd.". He did lots of Marvel superheroes between which also The Thing, as far as i remember, Spiderman, uh- a Daredevil, all with a mixed media technique, watercolour, maybe airbrush, and acrylics. I think that this version of a wounded -or broken, you choose- Venus A (the robot that used to stick around with Mazinger), it's profoundly influenced by the art of this incredible artist, and particularly by that Iron Man artwork, other than all the Japanese enthralling tv series that i use to watch at dinnertime when i was 8. Those were the days...

one-two, one-two.

This one is a drawing i did yesterday, inspired by the impressive graphic talent of Deanna Marsigliese and - following this link my friend Piero Corva suggested me - by other UPA artists (Ray Patin, particularly).
Nothing original, so to speak, but neither the usual stuff i'm posting and boring my guests with, if ever.
Ciao a tutti!*

You'll probably know the guy, but I was taking a further look to his impressive technique, and his work is something incredibly inspiring. In the George Goodstadt Art Gallery you'll find a huge amount of Hollywood stars caricatures, mainly lithographies. If you're in search of inspiration for your doodles, do not hesitate and click it! à la français

This one was merely inspired, other than by commission of Ale C., by the art of a guy that I don't know personally, but he rocks! His name is Arnaud Berthier and he is a friend of my friend Claudio Acciari, which rocks at least as his friend does!(sorry for the tangled construction..) Have a nice day...or shall I say...bonne journée? Insomma, ciao!

That's it, I simply couldn't stand it anymore. I had to post it, further modifications wouldn't improve it, I guess. So that's it, I'll leave it as it is, I thought, only some Miracle Cream could save the day, so stop it and post it, smart ass. By now to me it's ok, what do you think about it?..Stay tuned for a new, unseen, enthralling post..

Egon's best firend

There she is, caught right in the moment of time when she just realized that she closed herself out of home, leaving the keys inside. Later she will relax, thinking that in the vase next to the front door there should be still the other bunch of keys of Egon, her best friend (and ex-boyfriend), who left her his dog for the weekend, because he had to go to find parents in Vancouver...The sun shines upon her shoulder, no background, it's summertime. Happy new year, guys!
